I remember when I was a little kid and my mother used to take me to the library so that I could pick out some books. I always left with an arm full; I was an eager little kid so I would go home and read them all. By the next day I would have read all the books and would ask my mother to take me back to the library to get more books.
Now that I am older reading a book seems like such a drag because it requires my full concentration which usually means I am in a room with no noise. The minute I start to read a book I am counting the pages to see how many pages I have left to go. I get bored really quick and I get distracted and frustrated when the story is slow to get to the point.
Why can’t I enjoy reading anymore?
Our society has become surfers of the web traveling from one link to another, broadcasting our personal lives and becoming experts at multitasking.
It is as simple as typing a few key words into a box and clicking Google, where instantly there are millions of articles waiting for us to discover them. While at the same time we are checking our emails, our Facebook accounts, and writing on Twitter.
In other words you can describe us as squirrels because we have the attention span of about one second on normal things and about four minutes on acorns and nuts.
Books are no longer the main source of finding out information but the internet is being used instead. You could say that our society no longer has the patients to read a book to find the answer to their question. Why read a book, when you can go online and get information just like the internet distributes it which is in quick and accurate manners.
We are so used to getting information at a quick rate and we are demanding it quicker. My question is, how far does it go and at what price?
